Vocabulary
Organism = Living things
Characteristic = how something looks or what it does. Structural characteristic.
Thorax ( of an insect)= The second section of an insects body
Pupae=The resting stage of an insects life cycle that occurs between the larva stage and the adult insect.
Larvae=The immature form of an insect that hatches from an egg.
Abdomen( insect)= The third section of an insects body.
Microorganism=  Living things too small to small to be viewed by the human eye.
Microscope= A microscope is used to see small organisms that we can't see with our naked eyes.
Palaeontologist= A scientist who studies forms of life that existed long ago.
Deciduous =Falling of or shedding at a particular season , or stage in growth.
Coniferous=cone bearing ; most ever green needle trees are coniferous
Cilia=hair like projections found on the surface of some microorganism. They are used for movement.
Adaptation =special features, like fur or webbed feet, that help a living thing survive in its habitat.
Biodiversity =Variety of living things.
Species=  A sort of organisms
Fossil=the traces and bones of things that lived long ago
Habitat= the living place of animals and plants.
Cold blooded= A term used to describe vertebrates whose body temperature  is the same as that of the water or other habitat they are living in.
Warm blooded= A term referring to vertebrates whose body temperature is maintained at a particular temperature , no matter where they live
Specimen= Samples used for study of experiments
Vertebrates=an animal that has a backbone.
Invertebrates= an animal without a backbone.
Kingdom= a large group used in classifying living things. There are five kingdoms: Monera, Protist, Plant, Animal, And fungi.
Classify=to classify and categorize anything. There are five kingdoms.
 Air the invisible gaseous substance surrounding the earth, a mixture mainly of oxygen and nitrogen
Oxygen = a colorless, odorless reactive gas, the chemical element of atomic number 8 and the life-supporting component of the air. Oxygen forms about 20 percent of the earth's atmosphere, and is the most abundant element in the earth's crust, mainly in the form of oxides, silicates, and carbonates.
Carbon Dioxide = a colorless, odorless gas produced by burning carbon and organic compounds and by respiration. It is naturally present in air (about 0.03 percent) and is absorbed by plants in photosynthesis.
 Air Pressure = Air pressure is the force exerted on you by the weight of tiny particles of air (air molecules). Although air molecules are invisible, they still have weight and take up space.
Angle Of Attack = the angle between the chord of an airfoil and the direction of the surrounding undisturbed flow of gas or liquid.
There are 7 main ranks. They are: Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species.
Here is a way to remember them
